    Morocco 2024-2026

    Partner and period

    Statistics Denmark works with Morocco’s High Commission for Planning (HCP) to strengthen official statistics and the wider national statistical system. The current phase of the partnership runs from 2024 to 2026.

    Purpose

    The cooperation helps HCP produce reliable and accessible statistics for public debate and informed decisions. It supports improvements in statistical production and makes it easier for public authorities, researchers, businesses and citizens to find and use the results.

    What we work on

    HCP and Statistics Denmark cooperate on digital statistical production, quality management, the use of administrative data, dissemination and dialogue with users. Technical work includes the statistical business register, economic modelling and environmental-economic accounts, particularly water accounts.

    We also support HCP’s work with other authorities that provide data or produce official statistics. Activities include joint technical work, expert missions, workshops and study visits.

    Selected results

    • An independent assessment of the statistical system: At HCP’s request, an international team reviewed HCP and Morocco’s national statistical system in 2025. The review produced 25 recommendations covering governance, cooperation between producers of statistics, access to administrative data, quality, dissemination and dialogue with users.
    • Progress towards water accounts: HCP and partner authorities reviewed the roadmap for compiling water accounts, assessed available data and developed a questionnaire to collect further information. An international consultant began supporting this work in October 2025. The accounts are still under development.
    • Technical foundations for production: HCP tested Moroccan data in a three-sector macro-economic model. The test version of its statistical business register software was also migrated to a newer cloud version, although further work is needed before local deployment.

    The project is financed by the Danish Ministry of Foreign Affairs through its Strategic Sector Cooperation programme.

    Latest update

    Following the 2025 peer review, HCP requested targeted support from Statistics Denmark to improve the dissemination and accessibility of official statistics. The review and an earlier stakeholder analysis highlighted the need for easier access to data, clearer metadata and quality information, and stronger dialogue with users.
